Iseli- The year is 2008 and this year I decided to attend an Airshow which is held at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NC early June. One of the things I had planned to do was visit the RF-4B Phantom that was on display at the Havelock Tourist & Event Center which is just across the highway from the base. I have seen many picture of this aircraft over the years but I must admit that pictures do not do this aircraft or the complex that hosts it justice. I am not usually a person that is easily impressed but I must say I really was. First of all coming off of highway 70 and turning down the road to the Event Center the first thing you see is the RF-4B looking right at you. It really looked larger then I remember it to be. This thing is spot on in markings. Whoever painted this thing really did an outstanding job and my hats off to them. I almost felt like I was walking back onto the flight line. It is painted in the VMCJ-2 colors. (Click on image below to enlarge) ![]() Another thing that impressed me was the Havelock Tourist & Event Center. Banquet hall, show cases and display's dedicated all to Marine Corps Aviation. This building was so well planned and put together that I really felt at home in this place. This is why I feel this would be a special place for a reunion in 2009 and only time will tell. One final note to this story. I did not think about this when I planned this trip but I seperated from the Marine Corps and walked off MCAS El Toro May 28th 1983. The air show was June 6th 2008 so I finally made it back onto a Marine Base twenty five years seven days later. It was a great weekend, one I will remember for a long time and I will post photos of the air show on this site in the future. Much thanks to the City of Havelock for a job well done.
