VMFP-3

MCAS, El Toro, Ca |

Welcome to all Marine veterans who served
with the Marine Corps squadrons VMCJ-1,2,3
"Composite 3" and VMFP-3 "Eyes
of the Corps" which flew the RF-4B Phantom
aircraft from 1965 to 1990. Also to those
who are Phantom Phanatics and anyone wanting
to learn more about the McDonnell-Douglas
RF-4B Phantom aircraft and its history. My
name is Marc "Ralph" Iseli creator
and webmaster of the RF-4B Phantom II Society
website and I served with VMFP-3 from 1979
to 1983 as a Plane Captain. At the time VMFP-3
was attached to the 3rd Marine Air Wing,
Marine Air Group -11, stationed at Marine
Corps Air Station El Toro , Ca. I have always
thought I was very fortunate to have been
able to train with and serve my entire service
with VMFP-3 squadron. During my final days
in the Marine Corps I was witness to the
arrival of the F/A-18 Hornets into Marine
Corps aviation when VMFA-314, VMFA-323 and
VMFA-531 retired their F-4 Phantoms sometime
in early 1983. The RF-4B Phantom went on
to serve another seven years and was retired
in 1990 and VMFP-3 was deactivated.
Time Stand Still For No Man
Fast forward to the year 2008 and I can hardly
believe that as I write this I have just
turned fifty one years old. Long gone now
are the whinning engines of the mighty RF-4B
Phantom which sits quiet in it's resting
place around the world in graveyards and
Museums. The World has changed so much over
these past years that all the memories and
places we remember back then are all gone
now. MCAS, El Toro is being dismantle to
make room for a park. It only seems like
yesterday that I was this fresh young faced
gung ho Marine from small town USA traveling
the world. Ten years ago I got my first computer
and notice many former Marine veterans from
the squadron where searching all over the
Internet for lost buddies. I thought it would
be great to have one spot dedicated for us.
This site is not really about reliving my
youth, because we all know that we can not
go back there. This site is about honoring
those who served their country and a great
squadron that was a huge part of Marine Corps
Aviation History. On this site I have created
registries for those who served so they can
leave information and create a record of
when they served. This not only reserves
you a place in history but also allows anyone
that is looking for you can contact you.
It is very easy to do, just go to the Sign
In Page and it's free. Thank you all for
your visit and support and I hope you will
enjoy the site and your trip down memory
lane.
Semper Fidelis!
